List of Nation’s Lowest Performing Nursing Homes Released by Senators
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has always kept a list of underperforming and potentially-dangerous nursing homes, but this list was closely guarded for legal purposes. However, thanks to a recent bipartisan move from Pennsylvania Senators, this list has finally been shown to the public.
The names on the list are nursing homes that do not participate in the Special Focus Facility (SFF) program, which is organized by the CMS. In the past, you could always find poorly-performing nursing homes, but only if they participated in this special program. Nursing homes that were not well rated but were not part of the SFF could previously hide in obscurity, but the Senators’ actions have changed that. All of the nursing homes on the revealed list have repeatedly been rated as “poor” by the CMS, and most have been cited numerous times for serious health, medical, and care code violations.
