Brown & Barron, LLC is proud to announce that one of our recent trial results has been recognized among the Top 100 Wrongful Death Verdicts in the United States for 2024 by Top Verdict™. Our firm’s $8,310,172 verdict in Schelest, et al. v. Al-Qaoud, et al. ranked #66 nationally, highlighting our firm’s commitment to achieving justice for families harmed by medical negligence.
The case was tried by Partners Emily “E.J.” Hammann and Christopher T. Casciano, who represented the family of a man who died following a preventable surgical injury at a Baltimore hospital.
As reported in a feature article by the Maryland Daily Record, the jury awarded $6 million for wrongful death and $2.3 million for the survival action after finding that a surgical team failed to recognize and treat a bowel perforation, leading to fatal complications.
“Our clients are grateful that the jury listened carefully to all of the evidence and held the defendants accountable for the loss of their husband, father, and son,” said Partner Emily “E.J.” Hammann following the verdict. “While nothing will bring him back, the family now knows the truth about what happened and will have some sense of closure.”
Top Verdict™ is an independent legal publication that compiles annual lists of the largest verdicts and settlements in the United States, recognizing the most significant recoveries achieved by plaintiff law firms nationwide.
The recognition marks another major achievement in Brown & Barron, LLC’s ongoing mission to restore lives and restore justice.
