A Little Fun Goes a Long Way at Nursing Homes

Nursing homes have a responsibility to care for all the daily living needs of their residents – and that includes social activity, which has been shown to significantly increase the quality of life for seniors. At Brown & Barron, LLC, we were glad to see a few nursing homes taking that responsibility seriously by encouraging their residents to have a little fun before the Super Bowl!

In Louisville, Kentucky, residents atSignature Jefferson Manor nursing homeenjoyed a “Wheelchair Super Bowl,” complete with a turf field, tailgate party, and team banners. In another part of Kentucky, Owensboro Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Centeralso held a pre-game bashthat included a Wheelchair Super Bowl, with eight seniors participating and a room packed with fans cheering them on. As Brandy Gross, resident quality of life director, shared: “We all really had a good day… I’m very proud of that, to be able to let the elders live their [lives] to the fullest.”

The fun didn’t stop in Kentucky, either. At St. Benedict Senior Community in Minnesota, residents ate mini tacos and answered football quiz questions during anafternoon tailgate partyfor Super Bowl 50.

On behalf of our team at Brown & Barron, LLC, we applaud these nursing homes and their directors for ensuring that their residents are happy and engaged. As nursing home abuse lawyers, we often see tragic cases involving negligence on the part of nursing home staff – so we were uplifted to witness the Super Bowl festivities happening for seniors around the country. We hope that other nursing facilities will catch on to this trend next year!
